The coach driver had wanted us to leave as early as possible to avoid any hold-ups the hotelier had wanted us to leave later, he didn't want to have to serve an early breakfast. In the end we left at 8.00am which got us to the airport at about the right time. Arlene booked in for a flight to Vancouver via Heathrow, the Manchester contingent shared the same queue as those of us from Luton and proceed without problems. Nigel and Carol went off for a few days motoring in southern Spain.

The company had been good the walks enjoyable, spoilt/ made more exciting by the poor maps and poor waymarking. The best walks didn't appear on the maps the worst GR7 did. With better mapping we might have been able to turn some of the linear walks into circular ones and also spent less time searching. The Sunflower and Lonely Planet books were useful, as far as they went, but the Alpujarras need 'a Wainwright' to produce accurate reliable walking maps for the area.

This was virtually the end of the season and we had the hills to ourselves, apart from the locals going about their business we met only two other walkers in the whole of the two weeks. We imagine it's busier in the summer but possibly not a lot, which is a pity as the area deserves to be better known.
