Hong Kong Days 1 to 5

Hong Kong
from the sea
Walked out of our doors into the pulse of Tsimshatsui, prime shopping and commercial areas; outdoor finds such as Jade Market and Temple Street Night Market, were a few steps away.

Strolled on through neighbouring Kowloon Park with its exotic foliage and aviary, sports facilities and indoor pool.

Wuhan Days 6 and 7
Located along the banks of the mighty Yangtze River, Wuhan is a provincial capital fast becoming one of China's major industrial and communication centres. Besides serving as a junction point for the Beijing-Guangzhou railway, the legendary Yangze allows ocean-going ships from Hong Kong and far beyond to sail right into the heart of China, whilst a newly-built international airport, the Tian He airport, provides an air link to the rest of the world.

Yangtze Cruise Days 8 to 11

Gorge narrows
at Kongling
Boarded a cruise boat for a five-night cruise up the Yangtze River.
We passed through what are among the deepest and most visually stunning river gorges in the world.
There was much to keep us occupied on board but we also took every opportunity to get off the boat at its various ports of call along the river that so we could stretch our legs and explore rural China in depth.
We hoped to get an insight into the changing faces of the oldest continuous civilisation on earth.

Xian Days 12 & 13
We flew on to Xian, taking in the City Wall, Bell Tower, terracotta army and Huaqing Hot Spring.

Guilin Days 14 & 15

Bamboo raft
Spent some time exploring what many Chinese consider the most magnificent scenery in China. This is a landscape of limestone peaks which rise almost sheer from the rice fields at their base and which for centuries have been painted by Chinese artists. Guilin is most famous for the fabulous limestone scenery that lies on either side of the Li River to the south of the town. We had a chance to see some of the city and also go along the river and marvel at the wonderful limestone formations,

Beijing Days 16 to 19
Flew to Beijing (Peking) our final destination, to enjoy some of the sights and experiences for which China has become famous. We planned to visit the Great Wall and Ming Tombs, The Summer Palace, The Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. Also included was an evening at the Opera. Here we spent four nights, giving us time to explore.
