Walking

Northamptonshire has over 3000km of Rights of Way that you can walk at any time you wish, all you need is some stout footware and appropriate clothing. A map might be useful, but not essential as paths are generally well waymarker.
In addition there are paths through forests and beside water, but if you want to share your enjoyment of the countryside with others then Northamptonshire also has a number of very active walking groups.

Duston Ramblers
To promote walking and appreciate the countryside.

East Northants Out & About
For pleasure, health and for fun. East Northamptonshire’s gently rolling countryside has so much to offer. Enjoy historic towns and monuments, navigate the River Nene’s bustling banks and flood meadows or explore peaceful Rockingham Forest.

Long Distance Walkers Association
We are an active group, and have a very good social walks calender, with a social walk of 18-20 mls every 2-3 weeks, just take a look at the future events page to see what we have on offer.

Northampton Ramblers
Most of our effort is put into our local walking programme. We also run social events to fund additional facilities such as our map library and our newsletter.

Northamptonshire Shamblers
Enjoy walking but want to do this at a leisurely pace? Fed up with walking groups that want to "beat the clock" over the distance of the walk? Or maybe you are new to walking and fear that you won't be able to "keep up" with experienced walkers?

Northants 20s/30s Walking Group
We are a group of people in their 20s, 30s and into their 40s from in and around Northamptonshire who enjoy walking, scrambling, climbing and generally having a bit of fun.

Oundle Strollers
Organised Wednesday evening Walks and Saturday Walks.

Ramblers Association
A comprehensive programme of walks is offered by most groups both during the week and at weekends. The walks vary from short morning or afternoon walks, to full days, 'away days', long weekends in other parts of the country and even longer holidays.

Rockingham Forest Walkers
We are a Northamptonshire based walking club of the British Walking Federation (BWF) and we aim to promote walking as a friendly and healthy pastime for all ages.

Rushden Rambling Club
We have two walking groups, a long-established one which enjoys walks of around 9 to 11 miles and the popular Tortoise Group whose members like to take life easier, with walks of about 4 miles.

South Northants Health Walks
We provide a range of health walks for people who currently do little or no exercise to take advantage of this free, easy and beneficial activity. All walks led by trained volunteer Walk Leaders and there is no need to book, just turn up on the day. We are part of the national Walking the way to Health Initiative (WHI).

Waendel Walkers Club
Our base is at The British Rail Sports and Social Club, Broad Green Wellingborough.
